Tia has a very interesting background. During Kristina's visit to a family friends' hacienda in the Andalusia countryside, she spotted the herd of wild Spanish horses roaming free around the stud farm. During this trip, Kristina was given El Caballo Danza, the hacienda's most valuable stallion, which obviously thrilled us, but Kristina never forgot about the wild herd.
We were told by our friend that the herd of wild hoses were being rounded up and sold to reduce the number of wild horses. Kristina immediately thought of the golden mare she had seen leading the herd and daily logged onto the internet to see progress of the round up.
Tia was the last mare to be rounded up - being the alpha female, she was smart and dominant. She had no respect for humans, and put two handlers in hospital within one hour.
With help from Kristina's friend, North Court Stables was declared good enough for the mare and Kristina was announced as her owner. It took a long time to finalize the details to ship Tia here to England. She didn't care for the stable or the fenced paddocks, but she eventually calmed down when we put Nirrti in the next paddock.
Tia will never be broken to a saddle - she's a high strung mare with a wild personality. She will tolerate humans and a head collar, but her lively personality makes her special and unique to her.
Instead of being a competition horse for us, Tia will be our broodmare.
